About the Book Marketing Cooperative (BMC)

The Book Marketing Cooperative (BMC) is a vibrant collective of authors and publishers united by a common goal: to enhance our craft, navigate the complexities of the publishing world, and ultimately, connect our books with a wider audience. We believe that by working together, we can achieve more than we ever could alone. The BMC is a completely free resource, powered by the dedication and passion of its volunteer members.

Our foundation is rooted in a simple yet powerful concept: cooperation. BMC Coordinator, Michael Pastore (of Zorba Press and Zorba Editing), envisioned the organization after reflecting on his time living on the island of Crete. He observed local olive farmers who, individually, could not afford the cutting-edge technology required to produce the highest quality olive oil. However, by forming an Olive Oil Cooperative, they pooled their resources, each contributing a small percentage of their harvest, and gained access to this superior technology. The result was exceptional olive oil, benefiting every member of the cooperative. The BMC operates on this same principle. We recognize that the challenges of writing, publishing, and marketing books can be daunting, especially for independent authors. By sharing resources, knowledge, and experiences, we empower each other to achieve greater success.

The BMC is more than just a marketing group. We are a community that champions the power of reading to cultivate better individuals and a more compassionate society. We believe that books have the potential to transform lives and contribute to a more understanding world. Furthermore, we are committed to ethical practices within the publishing industry. We actively work to expose scams and predatory practices that can harm authors, and we strive to create a transparent and supportive environment for our members. Finally, we are deeply committed to environmental stewardship. We believe that caring for the earth is essential, and we encourage our members to adopt sustainable practices in their work and lives.

So, how does the BMC deliver on its mission? We focus on several key initiatives:

  • Resource Sharing: We curate and share valuable resources – from insightful books and informative YouTube channels to essential websites – covering all aspects of writing, publishing, and marketing. This ensures that our members have access to the most up-to-date information and best practices.
  • Strategic Marketing Exploration: We delve into practical and effective book marketing strategies and actions, recognizing that authors are writers first and foremost. Our goal is to help members market their books effectively without requiring them to become full-time marketing professionals. We focus on strategies that are manageable, sustainable, and authentic to each author’s voice and style.
  • Monthly Community Connection: We hold monthly group video calls, providing a platform for members to share their struggles, discuss their works in progress, celebrate their successes, and learn from one another. These calls foster a sense of community and provide invaluable peer support.
  • Expanding our Reach: We are continuously developing our website, located at https://bookmarketingcooperative.com, to serve as a central hub for information and resources. We also plan to launch a weekly podcast on YouTube, further expanding our reach and providing additional avenues for sharing knowledge and insights.
  • Creating Educational Resources: We are committed to creating our own resources, including books and ebooks, based on the collective wisdom and experiences of our members. These resources will capture our learnings and provide practical guidance for authors navigating the publishing landscape.
